Our first storm in the new house. Cyclone Wilma raged around us and the rains came down and we hardly knew it! We had to keep looking out the window to make sure there actually was heavy rain falling. After experiencing so many big storms in the barn, which would shake and groan and was so noisy with defeaning rain on the tin roof, it seemed like the new house was so solid and still and silent. We had 200mm of rain on Friday night. We even watched a DVD that night – impossible to do in the barn if there was heavy rain.
At 7am the kids got outside and checked out the flood. Black Rabbit Island had disappeared under water and the meadow was covered. They got the canoes and a big black inner tube and explored everywhere. Then Milly caught the horses and went swimming with them around the island. Then all the kids swam and floated down the whole length of the river. I just took photos.
I kept singing the old children’s song: And the rains came down and the floods came up, the rains came down and the floods came up, the rains came down and the floods came up but the house on the rock stood firm.
