A few months ago my sister-in-law nominated me in a competition and I ended up winning a trip for two to anywhere in NZ! So in January Chris and I flew down to sunny Nelson and had five glorious days sea kayaking around the Abel Tasman park. What a wonderful place! Torquoise water, beautiful camping spots on deserted beaches… We tramped for several hours on one day and saw a picture card perfect deserted little bay. We made our way down to it, marvelling in the beauty and solitude of it all. We were just about to go for a swim in this idyllic private setting, when around the head came a huge double decker tourist boat! It chugged into our private bay and we watched in astonishment as a huge motorised gangway came down and scores of tourists poured off!! What a joke. We couldn’t stop laughing. Fortunately they all dispersed very quickly into the bush to do their tramps and Chris and I managed to get our private swim. Things aren’t always as they seem, perhaps???
